Alex and his brother, Scott Summers, were both adopted by Sinister due to their renowned genetic powers. Sinister obviously favored Scott over Alex, which led to Alex forming a competitive attitude towards Scott, always wanting to beat him. This attitude escalated to a peak when Alex, with the help of Cannonball and Amazon, overthrew Cyclops as the head of the EMF and the head of the pens. During the final epic battle at Apocalypse's citadel, Havok brutally killed Jean Grey, who's telepathic shield had been preventing the release of a huge number of nuclear bombs. Thus, the bombs dropped, basically destroying everything. However, before the bombs landed, Havok killed his brother, Cyclops before being killed by an enraged Weapon X.
