Synopsis for "Murder in Mid-Air!"
Beast stumbles into Pat Baxter's apartment, still hurt from his battle with Quasimodo. He falls unconscious onto her couch. In his delerium, he tells Pat Baxter all about who he really is. When he wakes, he finds that his fur has turned black.
Meanwhile, back at the Xavier Institute, Angel is reading the morning paper and sees the article about the beast at Hank's company. He says the X-Men should go see what's going on, but nobody else will go with him. He leaves on his own.
Beast is jumping through the air, pondering his encounter with Pat when The Griffin grabs him with his claws and carries him off. They fight for awhile when Angel flies in on them. Angel, not knowing that the beast is actually Hank, fights them both, but is eventually knocked down by The Griffin. Beast jumps down ahead of Angel and saves him from his fall at the last possible second.
When Angel comes to he asks Beast who he is and Hank asks him if he's really changed that much. They go back to Beast's apartment and he tells Angel all about what's happened to him.
Linda Donaldson is talking on her video phone to Number One. She complains against whoever sent Quasimodo. Number One tells her to watch it and reminds her that, as with Professor Maddicks, death is the reward for incompetence in the secret empire. Griffon arrives at the end of the call.
The next day, Beast and Angel go into the Brand Corporation's lab and answer questions from Captain Baxter. Angel says that Beast was with him these last couple days, hitting the town together. Pat Baxter chimes in and says that she saw them together at dinner one night.
When Beast and Angel go outside, Griffin knocks Angel out and fights Beast for awhile. Beast holds Griffin's wings down and takes him to the ground.
After the fight, Beast thanks Angel for showing up and talking with him. Angel says he'll tell the other X-Men the situation and that if Hank needs any help, he can call.
Hank goes to the library and sees a familiar face not revealed until next issue.
